Open and Distance Learning Council

odlqcODLQC was set up at the request of government in 1969 as the Council for the Accreditation of Correspondence Colleges. It became Open and Distance Learning Quality Council in 1995 and is now an independent body and a registered charity.

The aim of ODLQC is to identify and enhance quality| in education and training and to protect the interests of learners, focusing on open and distance learning.

ODLQC undertakes a rigorous assessment of a course provider's administrative and tutorial methods, educational materials and publicity, to ensure that all standards are met.

Once ODLQC accredited, providers are monitored to ensure that students continue to receive good service, and are re-assessed at least once every three years.

ODLQC Quality Mark

The Quality Mark sets ODLQC Accredited Providers apart as an educational elite. Learners can use it to identify good quality provision.

Providers can use the ODLQC mark to signal their achievement of, and commitment to, quality. Non-accredited providers cannot. They may try to reassure learners by indicating links with other organisations. But such links only demonstrate excellence if they are underpinned with rigorous scrutiny by the ODLQC -  a reputable, national body.
